Pack wrestling cracks the top 5 of the latest NWCA Top 25 in part because of their wrestlers in top 5 weight class rankings of InterMat. ACC teams placed four teams in the team poll and seven individuals are top 5 or better. Not far behind NC State in the NWCA team rankings are the Hokies at No. 8. Virginia Tech has two of the seven wrestlers ranked in the top tier of weight class rankings. North Carolina and Pittsburgh round out the team rankings at No. 19 and No. 22 with Pitt grabbing one InterMat spot at No. 2. An additional conference team is just outside the Top 25 in the Receiving Votes category. Virginia comes in at No. 30.
The schedule has two tournaments that will help lay the groundwork for 2022 coming up at the end of December and first of January. On December 29, Pitt and Virginia will compete at the Midlands Championships in Illinois. On January 1, Duke, North Carolina, NC State and Virginia Tech head to Chattanooga for the Southern Scuffle.
