ACC football along with men’s and women’s basketball television has been kicked to the curb as a result of Sinclair subsidiary Diamond Sports Group’s bankruptcy. With Diamond attempting to shed upwards of $8 billion in debt, apparently Raycom saw the writing on the wall earlier this year and informed Diamond that it wanted out of their Bally Sports contract. Diamond agreed which opened the doors for Raycom to find a new partner for ACC sports.

The separation has been a 180 when compared to the Bally/MLB melee involving the Texas Rangers. Diamond filed a motion with the Houston bankruptcy court overseeing the proceedings to, in effect, dissolve the contract with Raycom which concluded following the 2026-2027 season. Diamond failed to make a payment to Raycom prior to their March bankruptcy filing.

Raycom, a production unit of Gray Television had presented through Bally Sports a total of 43 men’s and 25 women’s basketball games last season which indicates it was not a minor sports rights asset.
Where to next? The content that Raycom produces for the Regional Sports Network still has a number of outlets available.. The first question must be, how will this impact the income stream to the conference and how will that be addressed with less than a few months to go before the kickoff of football? If a satisfactory answer isn’t found the ACC will have been kicked in the shins at a most inopportune time.
