Unless you’re bringing back the exact same roster (rare) in college basketball then there’s little reason to gauge the current year on those same premises. So it’s more than a bit shocking that the AP Preseason Top 25 for men’s college basketball only features three ACC teams. There is something to be said for the four teams lurking in the Receiving Votes category of said poll. Three, Miami, Florida State and Virginia Tech are likely candidates to punch through early in the season. Notre Dame will have to work on things before punching their ticket.
It shouldn’t be shocking that North Carolina is starting the season off as top dog in the poll. Hubert Davis has strategically built a roster that gives you flashbacks to the power squads under Dean Smith. There may not be any Coach K but the talent is still very much there for Duke.

Jon Scheyer may have to prove himself as a worthy ‘next man up’ before the team reaps the kind of respect of years past. As for Virginia there’s few and far between who doubt his abilities to recruit and coach. Many may not like the type of tempo he runs but it’s all about wins and losses. Bennett has a solid roster full of talented players. Can they click?
We’re about to find out just what each of these teams and others in the ACC have to offer on the court as the season is just a few short weeks away.
