The back and forth all comes to a head this afternoon in Oklahoma City The winner takes all in Game 3 of the WCWS. Title, trophy and knowing that you left it all on the field awaits at a fan packed USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium and to the scores watching near and far on ESPN. It could be said that neither games one or two ended as expected. Perhaps, by either team or fanbase. No. 10 seed Florida State came out swinging in the opener against No. 1 seed Oklahoma and took a decisive win, 8-4.

The start of game two had a similar feel for the Seminoles as Elizabeth Mason punched out a home run. A pitch to Mason’s liking on a 3-0 count was sent over the left field wall. Mason and Sydney Sherrill, who was on first, checked in at home plate to make it an FSU lead, 2-0.

In the top of the third the Sooners’ Jana Johns returned the favor sailing a home run over the left field wall and cutting the lead to 2-1.

Several innings later in the top of the sixth the error bug bit Florida State and Oklahoma’s Tiare Jennings reached first. Immediately after, Jocelyn Alo powered an over the center field wall blast that gave the Sooners a 3-2 advantage.

The Sooners amped up their game with two players reaching base on singles with no outs on the board. Florida State head coach Lonni Alameda opted to replace starting pitcher Kathryn Sandercock. Oklahoma smelled blood and swarmed like sharks. The next hitter singled loading up the bases. The wheels came off the Seminoles defense with mental errors and fatigue setting in.

Florida State couldn’t get their offense going following the initial two run spurt as the Sooners’ G Juarez’ pitching stymied the Noles bats. Final score – Oklahoma 6 Florida State 2.
