Week Three: ACC Nation Pigskin Picks

Week Three
ACC Nation Staff @accnation –

You live by the pen and it becomes a sword should you ink the wrong team. For the crew in week two there were a few deathly picks. Miami and Syracuse sliced up three out of the four panelists. Will and Chris were contrarians in picking Maryland and North Carolina. It paid off for both. Fortunately, we’re not hearing the expected gloating we predicted would come our way in Week Three.

Xayveon and Will both went with South Florida against Georgia Tech. Chris and Jim went with the Yellow Jackets and it paid off. Xayveon also went out on a limb with this pick of ODU over Virginia Tech.

What kind of unusual selections will we see in Week Three? Just one and that comes from Will. He’s on-board the Dave Clawson train with his pick of Wake Forest over North Carolina. Based upon the Demon Deacons performance so far that doesn’t seem like a pick that’s bumping the guard rails.

Game Notes

There are a handful of games that carry a degree of significance within the conference in Week Three. The North Carolina-Wake Forest match up isn’t considered a conference game but nonetheless the outcome will be telling. That’s the first game to keep an eye on as the Friday night lights are blazing once again this weekend.

The Demon Deacons are a favorite among betting circles even with a question mark surrounding Cade Carney. A head to head comparison of wins was enough to steer three of the panelists to North Carolina. The stadium at Wake Forest should be rocking.

College Football Rankings

NC State travels to West Virginia for a head to head with the Mountaineers. Both teams aren’t quite what they were last year but the Wolfpack should come away with a win. If you’ve never been to Morgantown, head’s up. The fans can be pretty unforgiving of visiting team’s followers.

Pitt heading to Penn State is a natural rivalry that will become a thing of the past until at least 2026. Better hit the road and see what it’s all about in Happy Valley.

Juiced Up

It wouldn’t be a wise decision on the part of Virginia fans to discount Florida State based on their previous games. The Cavaliers entertain the Seminoles on their home turf so that’s always a plus. There are some factors that must be taken into consideration. Florida State has shown glimpses of the team their fans had hoped they’d be this season. When will it, or will it come together at all? It could and who knows when that might be?

As for Virginia, Bronco Mendenhall has a well-oiled machine that appears to be clicking on all three fronts. Don’t expect the Cavaliers to let off the gas especially in front of a home crowd that will be ‘juiced’ up for this game.

There’s no doubt that the Dome will be mind-numbingly loud as Syracuse entertains Clemson. Dabo Swinney knows from experience that the Dino Babers led Orange seem to have his number. With Syracuse coming off a nasty loss they’ll be looking to make a statement. The Tigers also want to deliver a message. This should be fun.
