It is feast or famine for ACC men’s and women’s teams in this week’s United Soccer Coaches Top 25.
On the men’s side of the poll Wake Forest maintains their king of the castle status. On the women’s side North Carolina continues to work their way up the top 5.
That good news extends past the Demon Deacons to Virginia and NC State. Both teams exercised big leaps in the rankings with the Cavaliers up 11 spots and the Wolfpack up 6.
The rest of the rankings, on both the men’s and women’s side was not encouraging. Teams headed south in the men’s poll include Duke, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech. The Blue Devils took a 6 position hit, the Irish fell off a cliff dropping 12 spots and the Hokies made 7 into an unlucky number. Meanwhile, on the women’s side the damage wasn’t quite as likely to leave players with PTSD. Virginia dropped two spots, Florida State and Duke are down three places and NC State pushed cringeworthy falling five positions in the poll.
ACC soccer has provided some spectacular action this season. At the same time it has left fans feeling like they’re bungee jumping for the first time as teams move up and down in the rankings.
