Sometimes it’s lonely at the top. Other times, it’s just damn nice to be there. After the last couple of days of action you’ve got to think it’s the latter when it comes to ACC basketball. Duke men’s and NC State women’s basketball teams are enjoying the fruits of their labor in Top 25 hoops. Duke, formerly No. 6 knocked off top ranked Gonzaga to take the top spot in the latest AP rankings. The Blue Devils popped an 84-81 win over the Zags into their win/loss column behind Paolo Banchero’s 21, Wendell Moore, Jr.’s 20 and Mark Williams 17 points and 9 rebounds.
NC State started the season off with a loss to No. 1 South Carolina, 66-57. It’s been redemption time for the Pack as they’ve obliterated team after team ever since. Then No. 2 Maryland felt the wrath of a team out to prove they belong at the top as the Terps fell in convincing fashion, 78-60. The series of wins along with the upset over the Terps pushed the Pack into a tie for the No. 2 spot with UConn.
