Top 25 Basketball Returns To Louisville

Top 25 Basketball

Competitive, Top 25 college basketball is back in Louisville. The hard work is paying off. It’s more than the raising your head to watch a great play kind of recognition. The wins and nose to the grindstone approach have helped the Cardinals surge in this week’s AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches’ Poll. Led by head coach Chris Mack the program is washing away the grit and grime of the past and reclaiming a seat at the table. No small feat in a hyper-competitive basketball conference that eat their own on a weekly basis.

Seven conference teams get a nod from media voters in the AP Top 25 while the USA Today Coaches’ Poll is content with six. Louisville grabs No.’s 15/16 in the weekly polls. This is the same team that didn’t even generate a whisper in the AP Preseason Poll and only rated an 11 of 15 ranking by the ACC Media. Now? The Cardinals are third in the conference behind Virginia and Duke.

Add to that, that Louisville is No. 11 in the NCAA NET Rankings and rate a #4 seed in the most recent (Jan. 25) version of Joe Lunardi’s Bracketology. Is it too early to say, ‘they’re back’? Nothing wrong with hesitating until you see how tournament time plays out. That light at the end of the tunnel? You can rest assured it’s not a train.

And, Mack? He’s generating a lot of chatter on social media, the blogosphere and among the media as a candidate for ACC Coach of the Year. As painful as change can be sometimes, it can also be a good thing.
