The season has reached a point where teams must tighten their belt to gain some ground in the ACC Nation Power Poll. Last week’s 1-8 remained entrenched with only three teams gaining some ground in points. Wake Forest added two, Virginia three and Louisville moved up one point. Clemson remains steady with 60 points as the top team in the ACC Nation Power Poll since the preseason.
Miami, Boston College and Georgia Tech all gained ground this week. The Canes jumped 5 points following their win over Florida State. The Eagles added 6 points to their score after thumping a struggling Syracuse. Georgia Tech added two points and let’s call them ‘respect points’ after a loss to Pitt.
With Syracuse continuing to slide ( 12 down to 8) it’s conceivable that the Orange will take over the cellar from the Yellow Jackets. Two of the voters have yet to get on the Georgia Tech bandwagon.
Two conference teams hold spots in the latest AP and USA Today Top 25 polls (Read More Here). The top 5 teams are jumbled with the only agreement being Penn State at No. 5.
This weekend’s action puts four teams in position to lock in their sixth win and a bowl invitation. Louisville, Boston College, Miami and Virginia Tech can join Clemson, Wake Forest, Virginia and Pitt in post-season play.
Louisville and Miami face off for that all-important win which adds an extra bit of spice to this game. Boston College takes on a beleaguered Florida State while Virginia Tech faces a challenge in Wake Forest. Should the Hokies find another performance like the one they had against Notre Dame, this will be a tough win for the Deacs.
Speaking of interesting games, after the oh-so-close win over Virginia Tech the Irish head to Durham. Could the Blue Devils sneak up and bite Notre Dame? Is Duke the same team that pummeled the Hokies earlier this season? If David Cutcliffe can tighten up the offense and put points on the board it will be a game worth keeping an eye on.
