On the face of it chicken and waffles sounds kind of odd. For the uninitiated it most likely sounds like a ‘southern thang’. Before you dismiss this tasty combination let’s see if we can persuade you to try a serving of what began as an American tradition (as far as we can trace it) in the 1600’s, Pennsylvanians enjoyed their version of chicken with gravy. Let’s not get too detail oriented over whether it was a waffle or griddle cakes (pancakes) that were used in this iteration. The southern version made it’s recorded restaurant debut in Harlem at the Wells Supper Club. Any of these choices make for filling comfort food.

Chicken and waffles also are great as a follow-up to a day (or night) of tailgating, sporting events of any kind or any of your other rough and rowdy ways. Running across an article by Heather Berzak from MediaFeed let to discovering a list of interesting places to visit for this belly pleasing meal. In today’s world of experimentation you’ll find a taco version, sliders, the old stand by of pulled chicken and gravy plus a hundred and one options of syrups, sauces and gravies to smother it all in.

As we said at the beginning, there’s more than one way to serve up chicken and waffles. The self proclaimed ‘best breakfast in Atlanta’ can be found at the Atlanta Breakfast Club (atlantabreakfastclub.com) along with many other ‘southern’ treats like shrimp and grits.

If you’re into living the life and enjoying a drink or two then you’ll want to add chicken and waffles when you visit The Silver Dollar in Louisville. You get a choice of a buttermilk fried chicken served spicy or sweet to compliment your waffle. Start out with fried pickles or okra or a basket of chicken livers. They also serve up flank steak, smoked beef brisket and catfish as well.
