The battle for supremacy in college field hockey heats up this week. The top three teams in the country begins with North Carolina and is followed by UConn and Maryland. The Tar Heels pulled in 32 first place votes while the Huskies have 11 and the Terps grabbed 4.
That one, two, three punch at the top won’t be there after this weekend’s much anticipated face off between UConn and Maryland on Sunday.
There were two big moves among ACC teams in the poll as Virginia fell from the top 10 and Wake Forest returned to the fold. The Cavaliers 2-0 loss to Boston College on September 21 was all it took to send the team down in the rankings. In the eyes of those voting though, it wasn’t enough for Boston College to move up.
Duke and Boston College retained their spot while Louisville dropped a notch and Syracuse climbed a rung on the ladder.
