Florida State Powers Up Women, Pitt Tops Of ACC Men’s Soccer

The United Soccer Coaches Pre-Season Top 25 places a total of five ACC teams in the Top 5 of men’s and women’s competition. Florida State powers up for the season at No. 1 in college women’s soccer while Pitt leads the conference men at No. 3. In the women’s poll there are four teams and there are five teams on the men’s side with two more in the Receiving Votes (RV) category. Five women’s soccer teams from the ACC advanced to the 2020 NCAA Tournament. Florida State, Clemson, Duke, North Carolina and Virginia all made it to the Quarterfinals with the Seminoles, Tar Heels and Cavaliers advancing to the College Cup. On the men’s side Clemson, North Carolina, Pitt, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest made their way into the tournament.

In the women’s College Cup Florida State and Virginia faced off while North Carolina took on Santa Clara. The championship came down to Florida State and Santa Clara with the win eluding the Seminoles in OT with penalty kicks. Both Pitt and North Carolina advanced to the men’s College Cup but came up short against Indiana and Marshall. The Thundering Herd went on to win their first ever D1 Men’s Soccer Championship, 1-0 in a game that went into OT and ended in the 98th minute.
