The regular season AP Top 25 rankings for ACC men and women’s college basketball comes bearing mixed gifts. Only two men’s teams survived week one and are on the rise in the poll. On the women’s side NC State remained at No. 5 after a battle and ultimately, a loss to No. 1 South Carolina. The remaining four teams are now occupying No. 10 through 25. The hammer dropped on the Virginia men’s team (former No. 25) after their loss to un-ranked Navy. The Cavaliers fall to No. 44 in the Receiving Votes (RV) category. Former No. 20 Florida State fell to un-ranked Florida and tumble to No. 32 this week.

Looking at the plus side for men’s teams both Virginia Tech and Syracuse make big moves in the RV category. The Hokies are a spot outside the Top 25 with a 5 place move and Cuse is up 6 places to No. 35.

The negative movement on the women’s side of the poll sees former No. 6 Louisville falling to No. 10 after a loss to then No. 22 Arizona, 61-59 in OT. Florida State, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech all slipped a notch but not because of losses rather the movement of other teams in the poll. Notre Dame delivered an 82-56 decision over Syracuse that helped the Irish bump up 4 spots in the RV category to No. 31.
