Dream Playoff

There are so many ways for ACC fans to have the dream playoff come January 1.

For Clemson fans, nothing less than a chance at defending their national championship might be the perfect scenario.

Miami fans would love to see the Hurricanes return to the national stage and fight for a national title.

What if both teams were selected by the College Playoff Committee and ended up playing in January? Two ACC teams might well be the dream playoff.

There are one or two roadblocks along the way and more than a few other teams that want to get their shot at post season play.

ESPN Senior Writer Heather Dinich has mapped out the good, the bad and the ugly in, “Dream and Disaster Playoff Scenarios For Each Power 5 League.”

The first and most obvious stumbling block comes this weekend. A loss by an ACC team isn’t the only thing that can throw a wrench into the works.

Remember, you’re dealing with five conferences. Everyone wants to send their team to the playoffs.

At this point in the season the loss by Clemson to Syracuse is a blemish that the committee can’t overlook. What would happen if the Tigers stumbled against in-state rival South Carolina this weekend?

Would a loss to Pitt be enough to finish Miami? Maybe not if the Hurricanes can convincingly polish off Clemson in the ACC Football Championship.

The impact of a close game between the two teams has more than enough drama to stand the committee on their head when making a final decision.

So let’s throw in the Big Ten, Big 12, SEC and Pac 12. Get the picture now?

Dinich provides some clarity and at the same time you may walk away with a headache. This is one read you don’t want to miss. For ACC fans, find out what Heather Dinich thinks is the, “Dream Playoff.”
