Challenge Is College Basketball’s After Thanksgiving Dessert

College Basketball has the perfect after Thanksgiving dessert. The BigTen/ACC Challenge features two handfuls of ranked teams and some top-tier matchups. The schedule has Iowa taking on Virginia in Charlottesville and Notre Dame travelling to Illinois to open the 23rd annual series on Monday, November 29. There are five head to head games that are firsts in the Challenge. The aforementioned Iowa-Virginia faceoff, Minnesota-Pitt, Miami-Penn State, Nebraska-NC State and Maryland-Virginia Tech. The ACC has a 12-7-3 advantage in the men’s basketball competition with a 138-113 overall record.

Fourteen teams from both conferences are scheduled to play with one rotating ACC team. This year, Boston College gets to sit it out.

The three days of games continues on Tuesday, November 30 with the following matchups –

  • Clemson at Rutgers
  • Duke at Ohio State
  • Florida State at Purdue
  • Minnesota at Pitt
  • Indiana at Syracuse
  • Northwestern at Wake Forest

Early season rankings points to the Blue Devils and Buckeyes as well as the Seminoles and Boilermakers delivering some top-flight action

  • Wisconsin at Georgia Tech
  • Louisville at Michigan State
  • Miami at Penn State
  • Michigan at North Carolina
  • Nebraska at NC State

Again, the early season chatter points to the Cardinals and Trojans, Wolverines and Tar Heels and Hokies and Terrapins as being the must watch games.

The reigning ACC men’s basketball champions, Georgia Tech will face off with Wisconsin for the first time since the third event in 2001.
