Batting, Pitching And Fielding – Louisville Produces

Batting Pitching

ACC Nation Staff @accnation

Two of the three categories essential in winning out in baseball are in Louisville’s court. Batting, pitching and, well, not fielding. However, the Cardinals are ranked second in the ACC stat book therefore consider them hitting on all cylinders. In this week’s D1Baseball Top 25 and USA Today Coaches’ Poll the Cardinals continue to be the Alpha team.

Close behind is Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets are bearing down like a stirred up hive you’ve just run over with a lawn mower. Georgia Tech continues to ease their way forward, like Louisville, in the Top 10 of college baseball.

A quick glance at conference stats finds Louisville and Georgia Tech leading in batting average at .298. The key to Louisville’s success can be found in their pitching ERA where the Cardinals lead at 3.29. NC State leads the conference in fielding but right behind the Wolfpack is Louisville.

Another team standing out is Miami. The Hurricanes rank third among ACC teams in both batting and pitching ERA.

Batting, Pitching And Fielding

This week we’ll look at how ACC teams rank in the aforementioned polls and in the NCAA RPI. At the top of the polls and RPI rankings is UCLA. The Bruins continue to run roughshod over their PAC 12 brethren.

D1Baseball/Coaches’ Poll/NCAA RPI

  • #6/5/7 Louisville
  • #7/8/8 Georgia Tech
  • #13/12/13 North Carolina
  • #19/16/24 NC State
  • #20/19/11 Miami
  • #23/25/53 Florida State

What can batting and pitching do for you? Both Louisville and Georgia Tech are in a position to grab a top eight national seed in postseason play. Ask a player or fan if that works.
