ACC Vs ACC | Tigers, Irish In Fierce Battle For ’23 Cup

ACC

The odds were very much on the side of the ACC with 9 men’s soccer teams making it into the NCAA College Cup. With 2 seed Notre Dame, 3 seed North Carolina, 7 seed Virginia, 9 seed Clemson, 10 seed Wake Forest and 15 seed Duke plus unseeded Syracuse, Louisville and Pitt it seemed inevitable that at least one would make their way to the championship game.

Two teams that have been battling it out with each other in the ACC since 2018 brought it all together as they fought for the NCAA men’s soccer title. Notre Dame and Clemson made the most of their regular season game with the Irish coming out on top 3-2. In 2022 Clemson took out the Irish 3-1 in the First Round of the Conference Tournament.

In a solidly defensive effort by both teams that had it’s fair share heated engagement resulting in multiple penalties Clemson’s Brandon Parrish put the Tigers up in the 26th minute 1-0. The score would remain stalled up to the half and for a good portion of the second until Ousmane Sylla with an assist by Alex Meinhard tallied another goal to increase the lead on the Irish to 2-0.

Notre Dame wasn’t going away quietly though as the Irish battled their way through Clemson defenders for a penalty kick by Paddy Burns to tighten the score to 2-1. The problem now was there was but a minute left in which to force extended play. This would not be the year for the Irish as the ACC vs ACC match was in favor of Clemson.
