ACC Nation Power Poll Week Four – The ACC + 1 Rankings

ACC Nation Power Poll Week Eight

ACC Nation Staff @accnation –

You may remember we referenced upsetting the apple cart in last week’s rankings. In the ACC Nation Power Poll Week Four the fury of shaking heads among our voters was intense. So much so it was prompting the staff at the National Weather Service to consider using the Fujita scale to describe the resulting damage. Just when you think that college football in the ACC couldn’t get any uglier a number of teams shouted, ‘hold our beers’. The frustration overflowed in the comments section of the voters (here’s a taste). One can only imagine just how much more amplified that is among the fanbases.

Who’s making moves in the rankings this week?

  • North Carolina moves up from No. 4 last week to take over the No. 2 spot from Notre Dame
  • Notre Dame falls one spot to No. 3 following another unimpressive win
  • Virginia Tech drops to No. 4 in the rankings. No explanation needed except, maybe, why didn’t they fall further?
  • Virginia breaks into the Top 5 of the rankings despite a one-sided performance. An impression was made by the offense but the defense needs major help.
  • Wake Forest is rapidly ascending and just in time as they face off against Virginia. The Demon Deacs jump four spots to No. 6. Mike Lewis weighs in – “Wake is a tough team to prepare for defensively. UVA is a tough team to prepare for defensively. Deacs have a stronger defense. Wahoos are a difficult out at home. Something gotta give!”
  • NC State is easing themselves into an interesting position at No. 7 up from No. 9 last week. The Pack faces off against Clemson this week. Mike Lewis weighs in – “Ambush at Carter-Finley? State struggles to play an entire season at a high level. Tiger Paws reportedly are changing QB’s. But history has proven State can have special moments against ranked teams at home.”

The Struggle Is Real

  • Boston College slips a notch to No. 8 in the ACC Nation Power Poll. Mike Lewis weighs in – “I questioned BC’s defense coming into the season. First real test against Mizzou on both sides of the ball.”
  • Pitt drops from No. 5 down to No. 9. Jim Quist weighs in – “Pat Narduzzi can’t find a way to have his cake and eat it too. There is simply too much inconsistency, week after week and frankly, year after year. How will the Panthers respond when they get into the meat of the schedule? This season may find a dark shadow hanging over it come October.”

  • Miami is slip sliding away to No. 10 from No. 8 last week. Can the Canes find some answers and get back in the game?
  • Louisville holds at No. 11.
  • Georgia Tech holds at No. 12. Jim Quist weighs in – “Geoff Collins is slowly turning the corner with this team. If he can keep the recruiting ball rolling next season will be the tell. What about this year? DO NOT sleep on the Yellow Jackets. If they continue to improve they’ll be a mid-season surprise.”
  • Duke digs their way out of the cellar to No. 13 this week.
  • Syracuse registers at No. 14 in the poll. Mike Lewis weighs in – “Don’t be surprised to see Liberty win the Dome by double-digit points.”
  • Florida State falls two spots to claim the title of cellar dweller at No. 15. Mike Lewis weighs in – “FSU can’t go 0-4? Can they? At some point, FSU administration/fans must come to realize that this is a long, slow rebuild.”
