How excited are you about the start of ACC men’s basketball? Will it be better than last year? Are there surprises in store? The latest ESPN Bracketology from Joe Lunardi features 8 conference teams which is par for the course. From the looks of things we’ve settled into having the same teams knocking at the door in March of 2022. The seedings are different though as the highest any one team could squeeze out this early is No. 3. I’ll give you a shot, and just one shot at which team Lunardi picked for that honor. And, as always there’s a conference team in a very familiar place when it comes to (just) sneaking into the tournament. Again, one guess.

The top four No. 1 seeds according to Lunardi’s latest projections are: Gonzaga, Michigan, Kansas and UCLA. His No. 2 seeds speak volumes about the returning rosters and additions made through recruiting and the transfer portal. Here’s a look at the top 5 seeds from east region –

  • West – San Francisco
  • #1 Gonzaga
  • #2 Villanova
  • #3 Maryland
  • #4 Florida State
  • #5 St. Bonaventure
  • Midwest – Chicago
  • #1 Michigan
  • #2 Baylor
  • #3 Alabama
  • #4 Tennessee
  • #5 UConn

ACC Seeds

Florida State is joined by North Carolina in the Western Regional where the Tar Heels are seeded No. 7 in the latest projections. Over in the Midwest Regional it’s Virginia Tech, possibly Syracuse and Notre Dame. The Hokies pick up the No. 8 seed and Cuse is among the Last Four In and will have to battle it out with Colorado State in Lunardi’s bracketology to be the No. 12 seed. In this projection Mike Brey has the horses to make it into the Field of 64 as the No. 10 seed in the Midwest.

Duke is the sole ACC team in the Eastern Regional in Philadelphia. Speaking of the Blue Devils, Lunardi picks them to win the NCAA automatic qualifier for the ACC as conference champions. Meanwhile, Louisville and Virginia head to the Southern Regional as the No. 7 and No. 9 seeds, respectively.

The NCAA men’s basketball tournament begins on March 15 and concludes April 4 with the championship at the Superdome in New Orleans.
