ACC Big Ten Challenge

ACC Big Ten Challenge

The ACC and Big Ten conferences continue to expand their dual-conference sports series. This time the conferences will debut the inaugural ACC/Big Ten Swimming and Diving Challenge with a dual meet at Purdue.

This event will be more than team versus team. The event will be similar to the 2016 College Challenge format with combined points from men and women in dual meets. Team scoring will determine the winner. Meet scores will emulate NCAA dual meet parameters.

Competitors will be selected in a fashion similar to the College Challenge. Three men and three women with no more than five apiece from each team will be in swim competitions. For diving three is the magic number for each school.

Individuals may participate in individual and relay competition but only up to a total of six events.

The total number of student-athletes will be based upon the team’s roster plus times/results for the All-Star selection.

To add a spin to the competition the ACC men’s team will be coached by Braden Holloway of NC State and assisted by Notre Dame’s Mike Litzinger.

The ACC women’s team will have Virginia coach Todd Desorbo and Louisville’s Arthur Albiero leading the way.

For the Big Ten, Indiana coach Ray Looze will lead the men’s efforts and Michigan’s Mike Bottom will coach the women’s team.

This year’s challenge will be at Purdue, November 10-11 at the Burke Aquatic Center. As the event approaches further details regarding tickets and television coverage will be announced.
