Surprise | Clemson Gymnastics Strong ’24 Debut

Surprise

With the addition of Clemson, the ACC had the prerequisite four teams to bring gymnastics in-house after NC State, North Carolina and Pitt have resided in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League for years. The Tigers have been a surprise in their inaugural season having been selected to finish third in the conference. The RoadToNationals pre-season rankings also indicated that Clemson would likely be a third place finisher among conference teams in 2024.

In the ACC Gymnastics Pre-season poll voted on by coaches both NC State and North Carolina were voted favorites to win the season. The vote reflected the RoadToNationals poll with Clemson coming in third and Pitt fourth.

Head Coach Amy Smith had other ideas though as she directed her team toward a strong start that indicates assumptions about Clemson may have missed the mark. Clearly they are a surprise team to keep an eye on.

No. 2 Cal will join the ACC next season as will No. 52 Stanford. SMU does not (currently) have a women’s gymnastics team. With the aggressiveness of SMU supporters it would not be a surprise to see a team emerge in the future.
