The 2026 Preseason ACC Men’s Soccer Composite Power Rankings finds NC State as the unanimous Number 1, first in all three sources and riding the momentum of the program’s first ever trip to the national championship game, where the Wolfpack fell to Washington, 3-2 in OT.
The ACC post-season began with SMU and Virginia battling it out for the ACC Championship. The Mustangs clinched their first title in any sport since joining the ACC with a 1-0 win over the top seeded Cavaliers. The conference was loaded with talent across the board and nine teams received bids to play in the NCAA Tournament. NC State, Duke and Stanford moved into the Sweet 16 with the Pack advancing to the Quarters where the No. 15 seeded team knocked off No. 7 Georgetown to lock in a Semifinal spot, their first Men’s College Cup since 1990.

NC State opens the year ranked second in the country in national polls with Stanford, Virginia and SMU holding coaches poll spots at 2-3-4. The movement is in the 5-through-7 range. Duke climbs from the coaches’ seventh to fifth because Top Drawer Soccer ranks the Blue Devils 15th nationally. Clemson slides the other way, from fifth to sixth. The Tigers earned a coach’s first-place vote but are unranked by both Top Drawer Soccer and the national poll. That coaches-love-them, analysts-shrug split is the story that stirs the pot on the men’s side.

- NC State (No. 1): first in every source, national No. 2 and the first team in program history to reach the national final. As settled as a No.1 gets.
- Stanford (No. 2) / Virginia (No. 3) / SMU (No.4): hold their coaches slots. SMU carries the reigning ACC Tournament title.
- Duke (Up 2, No. 5): the analysts riser – Top Drawer Soccer No. 15 nationally against the coaches’ seventh. The team the numbers like more than the league does.
- Clemson (Down 1, No. 6): a coach’s first-place vote and a top-five billing, but no ranking at all from Top Drawer Soccer or the national coaches. The composite fades reputation the two independent boards don’t back.
