ACC Baseball | Jackets Tops, 'Hoos Enter Top 25 |

Georgia Tech is riding high in the latest D1 Baseball Top 25 and Virginia takes a big leap into the rankings following series win over then No. 8 North Carolina. The Jackets team batting average speaks volumes of the offensive firepower of the squad. With three Top 10 conference bats Tech can put up runs quickly on competitors.

Alex Hernandez leads the ACC with a blistering .521 batting average followed by teammates Ryan Zuckerman at .448 and Vahn Lackey at .446. In the battle of the Tech’s those bats came into play as the Jackets took the Friday opener of the series, 16-1. On Saturday they added another win to the conference W-L record coming away on top 14-5. Virginia Tech finished off the series on Sunday with a 9-6 win.

Virginia, a team mentioned heavily in pre-season polls and is already a presence in a majority of them finally broke through the barrier with the D1 Baseball Top 25 following a 2-1 series with North Carolina. The Hoos delivered a 13-3 surprise to the Tar Heels in the Friday opener and then split their Saturday double-header, winning the first 9-2 and coming up short by a run with a loss to North Carolina 8-7. It was enough to turn heads as Virginia went from unranked to No. 14.

Baseball

Miami dropped out of the Top 25 from their spot at No. 24 after unranked Boston College took their series with the Canes two games to one. The Eagles won the Friday opener 8-7, lost on Saturday to Miami 5-3 and came back on Sunday to win 9-5.

With the exception of North Carolina all ACC teams are moving up in the Top 25. Georgia Tech moves up a notch, the Pack 9 are up 3, Clemson 3, Wake Forest is up 3 following a sweep of Stanford and Virginia makes the biggest move overall. Wake Forest, with the exception of their first game of the season, a loss to Houston, 8-2 in Puerto Rico is on a 15 game winning streak.
