There was plenty of intrigue in this “Instant Reaction” matchup. Buffalo being one of the last unbeaten teams left in the country and Syracuse a team some think could be second weekend material. That’s if they can get things clicking.
Syracuse built up a nine point lead early in the first half. However, thanks to offensive rebounding, which was a big factor in this game Buffalo came back. The lead over the Orange at halftime was four.
The second half was all about the Bulls. Their offensive rebounding margin grew. Then, they got hot from three and Syracuse got cold. That was especially true at the free throw line where the Orange went 5-13 from the stripe.
The key stat, aside from Syracuse’s inept free throw shooting, was, as I mentioned above, Buffalo’s offensive rebounding. The Bulls outrebounded the Orange 17-9 on the offensive glass which is shocking when you consider the size Syracuse has in the frontcourt.
There seems to be some problems with Syracuse as they have four losses on their schedule already. They struggled to beat Cornell and needed a last second shot to beat Georgetown.
