Week Fourteen: ACC Nation Pigskin Picks

Week Fourteen
ACC Nation Staff @accnation –

Here we are at the end of a long journey. Ten years hence, oh the fables and tales that will be spun about the year that was. Yes, we’ll all wistfully look back and pine for the days that….*cue needle across record. Without a doubt, there won’t be any longing for a return to these ‘good old days’. Remember back to the early days of Summer when we just could not wait any longer for the return of football? As many a wise elder might say, ‘be careful what you ask for’. Now we’ve arrived at Week Fourteen and it’s time to bid adieu to the regular season. Here’s hoping that the post-season treats us all with a bit more respect.

Things couldn’t have been all that bad, could they? If you want to have a re-cap of the season it might be better suited if we organize it around a New Year’s Eve party. Make sure the host has a well-stocked bar.

On the positive side, we have seen the future and it looks bright and shiny. It is with great hope that a mental investment in an exciting ACC college football season in 2020 reaps returns. We’re of the opinion that this conference owes fans in a big way and that debt has grown substantially.

Week Fourteen

Can things go better this week? It’s an opportunity for teams to pull out all the stops. Throw the kitchen sink at opponents, if you will. Let everyone finish the season having some fun. Pull out all the razzle-dazzle plays you’ve kept up your sleeve all season coaches and let’em have it. Let fans leave the stadium with these words on their lips, ‘where’s that team been all season’? Give them a reason to invest in season tickets for 2020.

Dull Thud: ACC Nation Power Poll

Games

The schedule promises some great games. There are plenty of rivalries, a decision-maker and a few last hoorahs for seniors.

Our picks of must-see season ending games begins with Virginia hosting Virginia Tech. Only one person is picking the Hokies this year. Could it be that the fifteen year streak of winning the Commonwealth Cup is over for Virginia Tech? Virginia will gladly take it off their hands and take home the Coastal Division title as well. We’ll all find out who has bragging rights by mid-afternoon Friday.

There’s equally no love lost between cross-state rivals Clemson and South Carolina. The Gamecocks would give anything to spoil the Tigers run at another national title. Folks in Columbia are pretty hospitable but look for things to get heated at the stadium.

Rivalries

It’s a bit unfortunate that Georgia Tech is just beginning to find their stride. The battle with Georgia is always a fun time but even more so when there is some parity. The Dawgs are looking at their own run at a national title and don’t like the idea of the Yellow Jackets ruining the party.

The Boston College – Pitt game has some more down to Earth implications. The Eagles would love to get back to bowl play but Pitt has other plans. Lots of questions whirling around the hot seat that Steve Addazio is sitting on may be answered on Saturday.

Looking at it on paper the Miami-Duke match up doesn’t strike one as, well, exciting. There’s potential here, however. Miami hasn’t been themselves lately and Duke, well, they’re a prideful bunch. Watch out for kitchen sinks.

No Love Lost

Is there a possibility that Florida State could ruin Florida’s day? Yes. We’ll leave it at that and watch how it all unfolds. But, if the Seminoles want to go out with a bang this is the time to do it.

Finally, Louisville and Kentucky. Talking about no love lost. If you took a fan from both sides and they were the only two people in the state they wouldn’t admit to being related, much less knowing each other. The Cardinals have built something special this year and Scott Satterfield is just the guy to leave a mark on the Wildcats.

Enjoy Week Fourteen!
