Week Four: ACC Nation Pigskin Picks

Week Seven
ACC Nation Staff @accnation –

How time flies when you’re having fun. Assuming, of course, that your team is winning. Otherwise, things have been dragging a bit this month. In some ways, horribly so. Perk up, week four brings with it the opportunity to make all things right again in the world. Speaking of rough weeks, the ACC Nation Pigskin pickers didn’t have a great one either. The percentages are looking kinda lax for the guys. Looks like we’re going to have to cut them off. No more three martini lunches until they can get the numbers back on track.

The least pain doled out in week three came via one simple pick. Will went with the oddsmakers and put his faith in Wake Forest. It was enough to put him into a three-way tie.

Xayveon, Jim and Chris got nailed to the tune of four losses with their picks. Each of these games could be re-analyzed but why beat a dead horse at this point? NC State lost to West Virginia and Georgia Tech left fans moaning in pain with a loss to The Citadel. Boston College stumbled against Kansas and North Carolina could’ve used one more second against Wake Forest, right guys? Ouch.

ACC Nation Power Poll

Ugly and somewhat inexcusable losses in those first three games. The Tar Heels and Demon Deacons delivered the type of game we all expected though only one person was smart enough to choose the winner.

Game Notes

What games do we recommend keeping an eye on this week? We’ll start with Boston College and Rutgers. Was the Kansas loss just ‘one of those things’ or are we missing the forest for the trees? The Eagles need a big comeback win to set things straight. A stumble or even a loss will set the program back and get fans grumbling….again. Watch out Steve Addazio, pitchforks and torches are at the ready.

The next game that is worth keeping a keen eye on is UCF and Pitt. The Panthers have shown they can keep up with the big boys in their loss to Penn State. The Nittany Lions remain at No. 13 in the AP Top 25 while UCF moved up to No. 15. How much difference is there between those two teams? Does Pitt have more in their tanks than imagined?

Juiced Up

We’re beginning to see some life in the Seminoles. Florida State, despite incredibly dumb penalties and play calling were a hair away from ruining Virginia’s weekend. No small feat considering they were battling home turf advantage. We’ll see just how many more miles are left in this journey to a re-awakening when they face a rejuvenated Louisville. This could be an extremely fun game to watch.

The final match up, ladies and gentlemen, will set us up for one of two things. A Notre Dame win over SEC powerhouse Georgia will have jukeboxes across the Peach State playing, ‘The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia’. It may not be the end of the Bulldogs in the SEC fight but it could flip-flop the two teams rankings. That friends will raise serious questions about their hopes for a shot at a national championship.

The Irish, meanwhile, can go a long way in grabbing key post-season real estate with a win. On the other hand, a loss, especially a bad one will have them slip down the ladder with their chins hitting the rungs as they go.
