Week Five: ACC Nation Pigskin Picks

Week Seven
ACC Nation Staff @accnation –

What, you ask, could possibly go wrong with the picks in week four? A little bit of Pitt, a little bite from Georgia and a conductor named Eli Drinkwitz in charge of a freight train named Appalachian State. In week five our staff goes out on a limb or two in their picks to see if they can pick up steam or get out of a hole. When you pick what appears to be a wild card team and they win, you’re a genius. We’ll let you fill in the blanks for what you are called if those picks end up on the wrong end of the w/l column.

For the most part, last week was smooth sailing for everyone with just one loss separating the pigskin pickers. Has anyone gotten a firm grip on how teams are performing thus far? This week will be the telling tale.

In our first game, a Friday Night Lights match up between Duke and Virginia Tech, only Will went with the Hokies. Even with a home field advantage Xayveon, Jim and Chris all went for the Blue Devils.

‘See Anomalies’

As previously mentioned, Will is picking the Hokies in tonight’s match up with Duke. What other picks are going against the grain?

In what seems like an obvious choice, Notre Dame gets the nod of approval from 3 out of 4 on the staff. Who’s that odd ‘dentist’ that decided not to go the commercial route? Jim thinks this could be a ‘trap game’ (he admits he hates the term) for Notre Dame coming off a loss to Georgia. On the face of it, the Irish are at home, are an upper tier team and should have everything going for them. Apparently, all the more reason to roll the dice on Virginia.

ACC Nation Power Poll

Xayveon gets his shot with his pick of Boston College over Wake Forest. For all intents and purposes a home game for the Eagles and a rising offense should give them the advantage. Wake Forest is solidifying on all fronts and seems to be on a roll. The ‘X’ man has more confidence in Steve Addazio pulling off a much needed win in a tight spot.

Both Xayveon and Jim go against the grain (or is it Will and Chris?) with their selection of Georgia Tech. It might be a bit too easy to pick Temple after that loss to The Citadel by the Yellow Jackets. Geoff Collins has plenty of smoke surrounding this team. Perhaps, this is the week that we’ll get to see some fire.

Our final game, NC State and Florida State has Xayveon going with the Wolfpack. He almost had Jim going in that direction as well. The other three went with the Seminoles who seem to be edging toward a breakthrough. Look for a close game.
