United Soccer Coaches Top 25


A number of teams, especially on the men’s side of this week’s United Soccer Coaches Top 25 took a hit in the rankings. There was some damage done on the women’s side of the poll but not quite as bad.

A total of 8 men’s teams and 5 women’s teams from the conference hold spots in the Top 25 this week. Additionally, five teams (overall) are receiving votes.

Wake Forest and Florida State lead the men’s and women’s ACC efforts. The Demon Deacons continue to hold on to the top spot while the Seminoles are pushing their way through the crowd.

First, the men’s teams who stumbled. Duke, NC State and Virginia descended the stairs 8, 10 and 9 places in the week’s Top 25.

On the women’s side the pain wasn’t nearly as long term. North Carolina and NC State both fell 4 positions in the poll.

It wasn’t all bad news. North Carolina, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech ascended further up the men’s side. On the women’s side, Florida State, Virginia and Duke nudged up a little further in the rankings.

This week’s ACC Men’s Soccer Co-Offensive Players of the Week honors go to Boston College’s Simon Enstrom and Wake Forest’s Omir Fernandez. The Defensive Player of the Week honors go to Notre Dame’s Felicien Dumas.

This week’s ACC Women’s Offensive Soccer Player of the Week honors go to Virginia’s Rebecca Jarrett. The Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors go to Florida State’s Brooke Bollinger and Virginia’s Brianna Westrup.
