Trash Talking College Football ’24 – Rankings A Blast

Trash Talking

There’s no better place to start trash talking with college football than to look at the early rankings of teams. Our theory, which still is in place, is that laying out a Top 25 before there’s at least three games under their belts is just a way to get fans yipping. As you are about to see, at least if you’re a fan of the ACC+1 teams herein, there’s a whole lot of juice in these lemons so let’s start making some lemonade.

ESPN has released a college football post-spring Top 25 and they’ve already made a cut to their previous list that probably won’t set well with our brethren in Kentucky. Louisville’s out and Virginia Tech is in. On paper, the Hokies appear to have more in the tank plus they get a nod from Bill Connelly and that counts for something. Doesn’t it?

Not to worry Cards fans there’s plenty of good news to follow so keep your mind and eyes focused on the article.

Miami comes in at 24, Virginia Tech at 21 and then Clemson at 16. Knowing Dabo Swinney, that list has already been posted in the locker room. It will feed the adrenaline beast during practice and on into the season. NC State rolls in at 13 and are followed by Florida State at 11. Our +1 member, Notre Dame is at 5. Speaking of trash talking, we think Notre Dame is ranked much too high here. We’ll let the other rankings speak their piece and see if Irish fans return the favor.

Yardbarker believes SMU may be overlooked in the ACC equation so they preseason rank at 25. We’re pretty sure they’re not being given their just desserts in other polls and suggest you keep an eye on this team. By the way, get ready, because SMU fans know a thing or two about trash talking and they’re up for it this season. Up next, Louisville at 23, NC State at 20 and Florida State at 18. Coming in at 17 is Clemson and then the Irish at 6.

24/7’s April rankings release has the Cardinals at 25, the Hokies at 24 and Wolfpack at 20. The Tigers find themselves in the middle of the rankings at 16, then the Canes at 14 and Noles at 11. Notre Dame rounds out the ACC+1 at 10. Now, for you late-comers, we include the Irish because they play at least 5 ACC teams each season. You can fill in the blanks from there.
