Tar Heels Round First

ACC baseball fires up mid-February and the team to beat, according to two preseason polls is North Carolina. The Tar Heels round first among conference teams in the top 10 of Collegiate Baseball’s Preseason Fabulous 40 and Perfect Game’s 2019 Preseason College Top 25. North Carolina finished last season with an appearance in Bracket 1 of the College World Series. To say they want another shot may be an understatement. But then again so do a number of other teams in the conference who look to challenge the Tar Heels preseason status.

For his efforts in leading the Heels, Mike Fox was named Coach of the Year for the ACC and ABCA Atlantic Region. North Carolina AD Bubba Cunningham presented a holiday gift to Fox in the form of a five year contract extension through 2023.

Collegiate Baseball’s top 40 list includes 8 ACC teams plus an additional two in the receiving votes category. Perfect Game’s Top 25 ranks 5 teams from the conference. Here’s a look at both polls.
