Tar Heels Gum Up Pack 9
It was a nice ride while it lasted but when you are sitting on top you’ve got a target on your back. The Pack 9 have had it all their way for the last few weeks in ACC baseball. Leave it to their cross state rivals, the Tar Heels to gum it all up.
In weekend series action North Carolina swept NC State 6-5 on Friday, 8-6 on Saturday and wrapped it up on Sunday, 5-4. It wasn’t what the Wolfpack expected nor what they’d ever want. It sends the team tumbling down the D1Baseball Top 25 rankings and dings them similarly in the NCAA RPI.
The Tar Heels move up four spots in the poll following their strong showing. Both teams hold a place in the Top 10.
In other Top 25 action, Clemson took their series with Virginia, 3-2 on Friday, 5-4 on Saturday and 9-8 on Sunday. It was enough to move the Tigers up two spots in the poll and six places in the RPI.
Duke took two of their three in a series with Virginia Tech. The Hokies took the opener on Friday 4-3 but then lost 11-5 on Saturday and fell in a shut out Sunday, 7-0. The Blue Devils hold steady this week in the poll and hold onto a Top 15 spot.
Florida State sees no movement in their rankings either despite losing two of three in their series against Miami. The Seminoles lost both the opener and their series closing game to the Canes. On Friday Florida State fell 2-0, came back on Saturday for a 10-1 win and wrapped it up on a sour note losing 11-5 on Sunday.
