So You Say You Like Football

If you were looking at just one bowl to go to this year, which one would it be? It always pays to look beyond the teams. Sure, ACC football fans want to go see their favorite team play but if they aren’t a part of post season, what then?

This weekend kicks off the long list of sanctioned football bowl games that will take over your television. Let’s not forget those of you streaming the action on smart phones, tablets and PC’s.

Football fever kicks off this Saturday at 1:00 p E with the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on ESPN. The game features Troy against the North Texas Mean Green. These are two of the better Group of Five teams. The Trojans won’t find much love in the Big Easy though, as they knocked off LSU earlier this year, 24-21.

So why are we talking about the opening bowl? Let’s get back to your choice of sitting on the couch or going to a game, nay, event. You may not be a fan of either of these teams but who doesn’t like football? Better yet, who doesn’t like taking a vacation trip loaded with fun that is actually affordable? Speaking of affordable events, I hear that Tim Tebow is available for speaking engagements at a reasonable price. That certainly would be a hit with NFL fans.

New Orleans is one of Jim Quist’s (from ACC Nation Podcast) favorite cities. In fact, he’s headed that way to enjoy the pre-game festivities of the Allstate Sugar Bowl featuring Clemson and Alabama. That prompted us to take a look at this particular bowl.

Among some of the highlights are an opportunity to hear five time Pro Bowl safety and three time Super Bowl Champion Darren Woodson speak at a luncheon. There’s a unique 2 mile event called Dashing Through The Dome with an after party. The kids can participate in a youth camp exploring the science of football. Tonight (Friday), the adults can check out the I Love the 90’s concert featuring Salt N Pepa and Vanilla Ice. Also, Kid N Play, Color Me Badd, Young MC, Coolio and Rob Base all at the Super Dome. We found last minute tickets up front for $46.50 each.

As for the game, tickets are only $40 apiece and that was for some great seats. Maybe next year, perhaps?
