The latest AVCA Volleyball Coaches’ Poll has three conference teams on the rise. In the preseason poll only two teams made it into the Top 25 with another several rungs down in the Receiving Votes (RV) category. Now, in the week one poll, Pitt rises into the top 10 with Florida State emerging from the RV and Louisville moving up one place.
The top 5 changes only slightly as Minnesota, which was No. 3 in the preseason poll drops to No. 8 this week. Stanford remains at the top receiving 63 of 64 First Place Votes (FPV). Nebraska, with 1 FPV, Texas, Wisconsin and Illinois round out the top teams.
Among ACC teams the biggest move in the polls comes from the Seminoles. Florida State began with a loss to preseason No. 5 Wisconsin, 3-0. Their fortune turned the corner quickly when they defeated then No. 3 Minnesota, 3-0. The latter helped push the team out of the RV category into the week one poll.
Pitt continues to rise as they bump up two spots to No. 10 this week. The Panthers have rolled over Cleveland State, Cincinnati and South Carolina by a score of 3-0 in each match.
Louisville moves up to No. 24 in this week’s poll, that’s one spot better than in the preseason rankings. The Cardinals began with a loss to then No. 10 Florida, 3-0 before moving on to wins over Texas A&M, 3-2, and Dayton, 3-0.
