If you’re old enough to finish that line then you’ll know why we didn’t finish it. There’s no relief awaiting fans after another bizarro world weekend of ACC football. Try as teams may to get things right, well, we guess the saying, ‘If at first you don’t succeed’ is applicable. In the meantime, teams in the ACC Nation Power Poll simply plop into place. As reluctant as we are to say it, maybe things have settled enough that we know who these teams really are now. Or maybe we’re in for another week of fizz?
The saying, ‘who would of ever seen that coming’ is beginning to be overused, at least when it comes to ACC football. It’s becoming so familiar, in fact, that perhaps everyone should opt for, ‘if you think last weekend was something, wait until you see this one’. As you can tell, optimism abounds (where’s our sarcasm font?) among the staff.
It’s only appropriate that it’s Halloween and the ghoulish voices of the past are resonating. A former member of the staff’s mantra, ‘it’s a basketball conference’, is bouncing around in our skulls. Thankfully, basketball season gets an early start and will ease the suffering of the past and the present.
The sifting has slowly separated the wheat from the chaff. Well, at least for one more week. But there does seem to be a trend in the ACC Nation Power Poll as teams settle into the remaining seats of this cake walk. There’s a running battle for the final seat in the Coastal Division. Over in the Atlantic, Clemson continues to tip-toe toward the ACC Championship tilt.
ACC Nation Power Poll
The little to no movement among teams seems to indicate that the voters are satisfied keeping them in place. There was minor movement among the top 5 as Wake Forest and Virginia settled in. North Carolina moved up while Virginia Tech moved down. That’s more of a reflection of having the week off for the Hokies while the Tar Heels delivered another heart-stopping game for fans.
Miami moved up with an upset win over Pitt while Boston College dipped following a loss to Clemson.
Frankly, teams ten through fifteen have been head-scratchers this season. Florida State and Miami will have an opportunity to clear some of this up (or add to the chaos) when they meet this Saturday. The same is true of Boston College and Syracuse.
NC State faces a big challenge as they head to Wake Forest while Georgia Tech could come away with a big upset against visiting Pitt.
Games to watch this weekend? We have a few suggestions for games this weekend that could be a combination of plop and fizz. A win? Oh, what a relief it is.
