NCAA Basketball Bracketology

It’s beginning to look a lot like March Madness, everywhere you go. Let’s take a serious look at NCAA basketball bracketology from ESPN’s Joe Lunardi and CBSSports’ Jerry Palm.

If there’s one thing that should bother Syracuse and Louisville, it’s the fact that Lunardi and Palm have both teams on the threshold. Lunardi have the Orange and Cardinals among his last four in. Palm lists Syracuse as a last four in team and Louisville as one of his first four out.

Things aren’t much rosier for either team when you look at their remaining regular season schedule.

Syracuse heads to Duke, then Boston College and finishes the season with Clemson at home.

Louisville has nothing but road woes as they head to Virginia Tech, Virginia and finish up in Raleigh at NC State.

What can save both teams is going at least two of three in those remaining games. It’s a tall order but considering this is the ACC, not totally out of the question.

The Orange are a few notches ahead of the Cardinals in the NCAA RPI coming in at #46 vs. #49 for Louisville. Staying in that range will be a huge help when it comes to convincing the selection committee they deserve a shot at the tournament.

As we’ve said before, “what have you done for me lately” comes into play when it comes to teams being selected for the NCAA Tournament. That opportunity lies just around the corner at the ACC Tournament which begins March 6 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The final seeds aren’t official (released on March 3) but there’s little doubt that Virginia will be the #1 seed and Pittsburgh will be #15.

The Cavaliers will have a two day wait and watch period before meeting the winner of a head to head of the #8 and #9 seed.

For the Panthers, the road will be tough from the outset as they face the #10 seed.
