With track you’ve got clear-cut opponents to deal with while cross country (XC) offers up a bigger challenge in Mother Nature. Dirt, grass, mud, asphalt, gravel, sharp turns, steep hills, creeks, bridges are just a few of the things a XC runner must contend with on a course. And, as crazy as it may sound to the everyday runner, they’re designed that way.
With the At-Large-Qualifying beginning this weekend it’s a good time to look at the USTFCCCA Preseason men’s and women’s Top 30 rankings. You’ll also want to make note that the ACC will be hosting the NCAA XC National Championship as well. This year Virginia plays host at Panorama Farms on November 18. What does Mother Nature hold in store for competitors and fans? The temperature ranges from a high of 57 to a low of 35 with a 20% +/- chance of precipitation each day of the month.
