So far this season the Boston College women’s lax offense has utilized a scorched Earth policy against opponents. Only Syracuse, 12-14 and USC, 9-12 have been able to slow down the Eagles’ torrid scoring pace. It’s certainly not as if either team was a push over as Syracuse is ranked in the top 5 while Southern California is in the top 25. Boston College holds down the top spot in this week’s IWLCA Top 25 and rakes in 24 of 25 first place votes as well. The sole straggler in the voting resides with Maryland who comes in at No. 2 in the poll.
Seven teams from the ACC hold a spot in the rankings with four residing in the top 10. North Carolina, Syracuse and Virginia join Boston College in the top tier of women’s collegiate lacrosse.
North Carolina at No. 3 counts as it’s sole blemish a 12-13 loss to No. 2 Maryland which came in overtime. The shootout between the Tar Heels and Terps saw the two teams trade dominant offensive performances in both halves.
Syracuse counts as it’s only loss the aforementioned 12-14 decision at the hands of Boston College. The Orange went into the half of that match with a two point lead over the Eagles but couldn’t slow down their opponents in the second half.
Virginia’s lone loss came against the Orange. Syracuse racked up a solid lead in the first half that proved fatal. The Cavaliers second half effort saw both teams put 6 on the scoreboard but the Orange lead from the first was just too much for Virginia as they ultimately fell 11-16.
