Ice Hockey Rankings Tighten
Notre Dame’s grip on the top spot in the USCHO Men’s Ice Hockey Poll slips this week. The Irish split with then #13 Minnesota, 0-1 in OT on Friday and 4-1 on Saturday.
That loss was enough for Cornell to take over the #1 slot in the rankings and grab 32 First Place Votes. The Irish received 17 while Denver tallied one vote.
The Irish continue to hold a commanding lead in the Big Ten standings going into this week with a 14-2 conference record.
Meanwhile in Hockey East, Boston College continues to lead the conference with a 13-5 record just ahead of Northeastern at 11-5-2.
The Eagles split their weekend with UMass Lowell, 2-3 on Friday and 5-2 on Saturday. They’ll meet #11 Northeastern in the 66th Annual Beanpot Tournament which is slated for February 5 and 12. The tournament also includes Boston University and Harvard.
The Boston College women’s ice hockey team continues to hold steady in the rankings. The Eagles were tied in third with Clarkson last week. Colgate drops out of second and Clarkson moves up with just three more points than Boston College in the poll.
Coming off two wins over then #10 Providence this weekend, 5-0 Friday and 3-2 Saturday, the Eagles head to the Beanpot Tournament on February 6 and 13. They’ll slip in a game with New Hampshire on February 9.
