Georgia Tech, Duke Lead ACC Golf

Preseason previews point to an exciting Spring in ACC Golf. The expected front runners? Georgia Tech’s men and Duke’s women appear to have the best shot at conference titles this season.

The Yellow Jackets open play as a top 10 team in the Golfweek/Sagarin Ratings. The big question mark with the team? Georgia Tech is one of the few teams lacking ranked individuals in the Top 50.

Four additional conference teams to keep an eye on are Wake Forest, Clemson, North Carolina and Duke. The Demon Deacons will be without the services of Will Zalatoris, the 2017 ACC Player of the Year. Zalatoris, turned pro at the end of last year. His departure prior to his final semester of collegiate golf leaves big shoes to fill.

Individually, Bryson Nimmer of Clemson, Stephen Franken of NC State and Harry Ellis of Florida State are generating buzz.

Also, keep your eyes on Doc Redman, the 2017 U.S. Amateur Golf Champion, who returns to Clemson. Redman has been somewhat of a slow starter in the past. However, his strength has been as a clutch player down the stretch. He is currently #113 in the individual rankings.

Georgia Tech, Duke Lead ACC Golf

Duke women open the season ranked in the top 5 and there’s no shortage of talent on the roster. The depth and experience of Leona Maguire and that of 2016 NCAA Individual Champion, Virginia Elena Carta would be enough to satisfy most coaches. Duke’s addition of top 20 performers Ana Belac and Jaravee Boonchant lays out a promising future for the team.

Teams to watch include Louisville, Virginia, Wake Forest and Miami who all field exceptional individual performers.

Returning to Wake Forest is Jennifer Kupcho, runner-up in the 2016-2017 NCAA Individual Golf Championship. Kupcho’s depth and experience matched with Emilia Migliaccio points to a solid season ahead for the Demon Deacons.

Additional individuals to watch are Dewi Weber of Miami and Beth Lillie of Virginia.
