The CCSA Championship on Sunday found Florida State beach volleyball in a very familiar position. After fending off No. 16 Georgia State, 3-2 in the semifinals, the No. 3 Seminoles faced No. 4 LSU in the conference championship. With a 3-0 sweep of the Tigers, Florida State added their fourth consecutive title in the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA).

The decision over Georgia State began with Molly McBain and Payton Caffrey scoring a 22-20, 21-10 win. The Seminoles’ Macy Jerger and Kate Privett delivered a 21-15, 21-12 decision to up the Florida State lead. Payton Rund and Sara Putt clinched the match with their 21-19, 21-17 win.

Georgia State didn’t go out without shaking the trees as they picked up two wins at the end to make it 3-2. At this point it was too late to change the outcome of the semifinal as Florida State advanced to the CCSA Beach Volleyball Championship against LSU.

McBain and Caffrey got off to a slow start and fell behind before finding their stride. The duo took the first set 21-16 and the second 21-11 to give the Seminoles a 1-0 lead.

Florida State locked in win number two behind the play of Jerger and Privett. Delivering a strong showing the pair clinched the first set 21-13. Initially falling behind at 8-5 in the second set the teammates found their second wind and emerged with a 21-15 win.

Rund and Putt once again were put in a position to lock up the match as they had against Georgia State earlier. It didn’t take long as they took the first set 21-12 and the second 21-15.
