Aside from obvious instances, 2021 was a good year especially for Notre Dame fencing. With both the men and women picking up individual championships in foil and sabre the Irish took home the NCAA Fencing Championship title, their 11th since the program began. Duke men’s and women’s team clinched the 2021 ACC Championship titles in a year in which COVID prevented Notre Dame from competing. Could another national title be in the works for the Irish in 2022?
The answer to that question comes in the latest rankings from the United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) The USFCA has given the nod to both the men’s and women’s teams with their number one rankings. Three additional ACC teams also made the latest USFCA Top 30 in addition to the Irish. Boston College, Duke and North Carolina received a spot in the rankings as well.
