ACC Nation Staff @accnation –
That loud ticking you hear is twice as loud inside the heads of a number of ACC baseball coaches. It’s the countdown clock and along with the alarm a dose of reality is close behind. We’re under a month before the ACC Baseball Championship begins. Simply said and put, Durham looms large. It may be the saving grace for a number of teams with hopes of road tripping to Omaha.
Where teams are in the rankings (polls and especially RPI) are giving us a snapshot of what’s to come in the post-season. At the moment, 8 teams from the conference have the potential of jumping into regional action.
Before we look at the D1Baseball.com projected Field of 64, let’s examine the weekly mix of polls. As usual, D1Baseball, USA Today’s Coaches’ Poll and the NCBWA Top 30 will give us an idea how teams are faring. Plus, we’ll look at the critical rankings provided via the NCAA RPI. This will provide some explanation as to why Durham looms large. The ACC Championship has the potential of putting teams into a more comfortable position.
But first, who’s actually leading the Atlantic and Coastal Divisions of the ACC? The top 3 in the Atlantic includes Louisville, NC State and Florida State. In the Coastal it’s North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Miami.
