Five teams, five goals and they’re all the same. Destination, Oklahoma City. The road to the Women’s College World Series begins with the NCAA Regionals with the double elimination play set to begin Thursday, May 16. The conference teams that received bids are Florida State, Louisville, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech.

The Irish find themselves in the Norman Regional along with No. 1 Oklahoma, Wisconsin and UMBC. It will be a battle to reach the Super Regionals for Notre Dame where they could meet an ACC opponent.

This is the 24th overall NCAA bid for Notre Dame. They’ll face off with Wisconsin first.

The Cardinals will have to fight their way through No. 16 Northwestern, Southern Illinois and Detroit Mercy to advance in the Evanston Regional.

Louisville is seeing their 14th NCAA Tournament. They’ll face Southern Illinois in the first game.

In the Lexington Regional Virginia Tech has No. 14 Kentucky, Illinois and Dayton to contend with if they want to move forward in the bracket.

This is the 9th NCAA Tournament appearance for the Hokies. Illinois is slated to be their first opponent. Virginia Tech is hoping their ultimate destination is the WCWS.


Meanwhile, in Knoxville the Tar Heels have No. 12 Tennessee, Ohio State and Longwood in the way of their advancing to the Super Regionals.

North Carolina’s 15th appearance will see them start against Ohio State.

No. 4 Florida State hosts the Tallahassee Regional and will be a thorn in the side of South Carolina, South Florida and Bethune-Cookman.


This is the fourth straight year that Florida State has earned a top eight seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Seminoles will take on Bethune-Cookman in their first game. Should they win the Regional they will also host the Super Regional.

Oklahoma City

Super Regionals are best of three and the advancing teams will mark their destination Oklahoma City for the Women’s College World Series. Those eight teams will be split into two brackets with double elimination play.

The two teams that advance to the championship series will play best of three to determine the winner.
