College Football Rankings

College Football

The college football rankings have taken a left at the light and into an unfamiliar neighborhood. With the release of the first College Football Playoff Top 25 the ACC teams found therein may throw you for a loop.

We’ll take a look at that list along with the AP Top 25, USA Today Coaches Poll and ESPN’s FPI plus a new bowl projection as well.

The top 4 teams will experience a shakeup after this weekend as #1 Alabama meets #4 LSU. One winner, one loser and the Tigers with a loss under their belts already won’t stay in this elite group if they fall. Will Alabama stay in the top 4 if they lose to LSU? Interesting question. We’ll have to wait a week to see.

What would happen if #4 Notre Dame were to lose to a tough Northwestern? That might spell the end of the ride for the Irish. Could it happen? The answer is yes and a closer look at the Wildcats’ schedule provides clues as to why.

Two teams that would stand to benefit from LSU and Notre Dame losing are Michigan and Georgia. The Wolverines are waiting in the wings but must get by Penn State and Ohio State to make it stick should the opportunity arise.

As for the Bulldogs, they have one loss on their record and it’s to LSU. The Tigers crushed them early in the season but they’ve moved forward with some heavy handed wins of their own. They’ll still need to get past Kentucky and a wily Auburn to get another shot at the top 4. Getting past Alabama in an SEC championship would go a long way to locking in a playoff berth.
