Cardinals, Irish Claim Two Number One Seeds
It’s been two weeks since the first selection of the Top 16 by the NCAA Women’s Basketball Committee. Louisville and Notre Dame grab the third and fourth number one seeds behind UConn and Mississippi State. The Cardinals and Irish are in a three-way tie in the ACC with Virginia. (*Correction – Were in a three-way tie prior to Thursday’s game).
ESPN’s Charlie Creme has eight teams from the ACC in his recent bracket. Beginning with Florida State at #2, Duke #5, Virginia and NC State at #7, Syracuse #8 and Miami as a #10 seed.
One other ACC team is on the recent Top 16 and that’s Florida State. The Seminoles are ranked #8.
The committee also assigned regions for each of the top seeds. The top seed for the Lexington Regional will be Louisville while Notre Dame is top seed for Spokane. UConn has Albany and Mississippi State will head to Kansas City.
Teams selected as Top 16 seeds host the first and second rounds of the championship beginning in mid March. The third and final reveal of that list will come on Monday, February 19 during the half of the Florida State-Duke game.
Regional action gets underway in Kansas City and Lexington, March 23 and 25. Albany and Spokane will host games on March 24 and 26.
The NCAA Women’s Final Four is in Columbus, March 30 and April 1.
