Basketball Tournament Overload

As much as some of you are drooling over the beginning of football others can hardly wait for basketball. You won’t have to wait for January to get a taste of the really good stuff this year. Your basketball jones will get a mighty big fix as soon as early November.

ESPN Events has revealed the teams they’ve slotted into brackets for five of their tournaments. Teams from the ACC will be participating in four. Hold on, it only gets better. There are a total of eight tournaments that the conference will participate in (so far) that will be on ESPN.

The State Farm Champions Classic is a neutral site doubleheader. This year the event will be held at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Tuesday, November 6. You can’t go wrong with this type of lineup early in the year. On the dais are Duke, Kansas, Kentucky and Michigan State. The Blue Devils are slated to face the Wildcats.

Before we venture too far into the tournaments and matchups let’s take a look at the most recent Way-Too-Early Top 25 for men’s basketball from Gary Parrish at CBS Sports. It will give you a better idea of how much talent is lined up to play.

Basketball Tournaments

Charleston Classic

This three day (November 15, 16 and 18) features Virginia Tech, Alabama, Northeastern, Davidson, Purdue, Ball State, Wichita State and Appalachian State.  

The Hokies will square off against Ball State on Thursday, November 15 at 11:30am ET with the game on ESPN2.

Myrtle Beach Invitational

This tournament will also be a three day event (see dates above) and will be played at Coastal Carolina’s HTC Center. The teams featured include Wake Forest, Cal State Fullerton, Monmouth, St. Joseph’s, UCF, Valparaiso, Western Kentucky and West Virginia.

The Demon Deacons will face St. Joseph’s on Thursday, November 15 at 11:30am ET with coverage on ESPNU.

NIT Tip-Off

The four designated home teams, Louisville, Kansas, Tennessee and Marquette will host two on campus games prior to the two-day championship. The Tournament will be played at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn on November 21 and 23.

More Basketball Tournaments

AdvoCare Invitational

The HP Field House near Orlando will host this tournament November 22 through 25. Teams featured include Florida State, Canisius, College of Charleston, LSU, Memphis, Oklahoma State, UAB and Villanova. 

The Seminoles will take on UAB on Thursday, November 22 (time approximate 9:00-9:30pm ET) with the game on ESPN2 or ESPNU.

Wooden Legacy

This tournament is slated for November 22, 23 and 25 at Titan Gym in Fullerton, CA. Teams scheduled to play this year include Miami, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Hawai’i, La Salle, Northwestern, Seton Hall and Utah.

Miami will face off with La Salle on Thursday, November 22 at 2:30pm ET with coverage on ESPNU.

Jimmy V Classic

The Jimmy V Women’s Classic will pit reigning national champion Notre Dame against perennial powerhouse UConn on Sunday, December 2 at 4:00pm ET. 

The Jimmy V Men’s Classic is a doubleheader slated for Tuesday, December 4 at Madison Square Garden. Notre Dame will take on Oklahoma for the opener at 7:00pm ET.

Basketball Tournament Overload

If you’re a huge college hoops fan there are a number of additional tournaments that you may find interesting. The Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Class on December 22, 23 and 25 will feature Bucknell, Charlotte, Colorado, Hawai’i, Indiana State, Rhode Island, TCU and UNLV.

There’s also the Armed Forces Classic on Friday, November 9 in El Paso featuring Texas and Arkansas. In it’s seventh year the event which has been overseas since 2012 will be played stateside for the first time at Fort Bliss.
