Baseball America’s Field Of 64
The Field of 64 for college baseball regional play will, in all likelihood, contain six ACC teams this year. Baseball America projects the 2018 bracket to include Duke, North Carolina, Clemson, NC State, Louisville and Florida State.
The selection committee has structured the Regionals differently for 2018. Instead of the eight host sites used in the past, this year, there will be sixteen host sites.
Much like other NCAA post season tournaments baseball will now feature a seeded team at each regional site. There are sixteen top seeds that will be spread among the host sites. Another factor that has changed is that of geography and how it will applied in assigning teams.
What does this mean? By the time teams hit the Super Regional level of play they could face a top sixteen seed from the same conference.
|#3||North Carolina||Chapel Hill|
NC State, North Carolina, Clemson Duke and Florida State continue to occupy a spot in the D1Baseball Top 25. Only the Tar Heels took a hit on there spot in the poll. North Carolina lost two of their three in a series with Duke this past weekend.
Four ACC teams pick up a seed in this projected bracket. Duke is the #2 team in their region and Louisville is #3.
The publication lists Georgia Tech among their First Four Out.
Could a run by the Yellow Jackets in the ACC Baseball Championship be enough to lift them into the running for a post-season spot? Georgia Tech is currently at #48 in the NCAA RPI and it would take just such a turn to open the door for the team. Tough, but not unheard of.
