ACC Softball Coach Of The Year Has New Home

Pitt softball coach Holly Aprile who led the team to the 2018 ACC Coastal Division Championship is headed to Louisville. Aprile was named just the second head coach of the Panthers program in 2009 after 5 years as an assistant. She’ll continue that second coach tradition at Louisville.

Her tenure with Pitt included a divisional championship, two appearances in the ACC Championship and the NCAA Regional Finals.

A graduate of University of Massachusetts Aprile was pitcher and outfielder for the school’s team before graduating in 1992. She also played for the U.S. National Team. Prior to joining Pitt, Aprile was an assistant with South Carolina for 8 years.

Aprile will take over the Louisville program from the first and only coach the Cardinals have ever had in Sandy Pearsall who retire earlier this summer. Pearsall led the program for 19 seasons.

The Louisville program delivered a 33-20 overall record this past season with 10-12 in the ACC.

On departing Pitt, Aprile said, “I’ve had the honor to work with some of the most amazing student-athletes during my time at Pitt, especially during this past season. I was truly blessed to be around one of the best groups of young women that I have ever had the honor of coaching and am extremely proud of them and their accomplishments. I know they will continue to lead this program to great heights.”
