So, what did we end up with among ACC head to head competition?
Louisville ended up nipping Florida State as James Blackman works through his freshman yips. Will he find his confidence level before the season ends?
Pitt surprised Duke and chalked up a nice conference win.
Boston College continues to be full of surprises. Have the Eagles finally found and offense that compliments a solid defense?
Virginia Tech came out of bye week and delivered a message to the rest of the conference that they are coming. North Carolina was, unfortunately, on the receiving end.
Syracuse had a taste for ranked hide after knocking off Clemson. They gave Miami a run for their money and a wake up notice to everyone else.
Georgia Tech and Wake Forest battled it out in a nicely matched game. The Yellow Jackets are delivering a well rounded package to opponents.
Outside the conference, in a battle of top 15 teams, Notre Dame ran all over USC in a much vaunted game. The Irish have found that old spark and are confidently lighting fires.
ACC Nation Power Poll – Picks
So, what’s changed in rankings this week?
The top 5 teams are still the same with one big difference. In order, Clemson, Virginia Tech, NC State, Miami and Notre Dame. The difference this week is a three way tie for the third position. The Wolfpack, Hurricanes and Irish are all locked in with 49 points at #3.
Teams on the rise this week include; Georgia Tech up 3, Louisville up 3 and moving up 1 each are Boston College, Pitt and Syracuse.
There are teams that didn’t hold up their end of the bargain this week and each have taken a hit in the Power Poll. Virginia drops off four places followed by Florida State down three and Duke with a two spot downward adjustment.
ACC Nation Power Poll – The Second Half
On the schedule this week; Florida State heads to Boston College for a Friday game, Miami is at North Carolina, Louisville visits Wake Forest and Virginia travels to Pittsburgh.
Also on the schedule, Duke at Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech at Clemson.
The big game is the match up between #14 NC State and #9 Notre Dame with the game on the home turf of the Irish. We’ll find out who’s for real in a game that promises some fireworks on both ends of the ball.
ESPN Team Efficiency stats point to Notre Dame as having the advantage on defense and in special teams play. Both teams are evenly matched on offense.
