ACC Football Schedule
This weekend’s ACC football schedule features a handful of games but don’t be fooled by a slim schedule. Three games have the potential to be barn burners and two may lay the groundwork for a championship tilt.
The opener comes courtesy of Syracuse and Florida State in Tallahassee. It’s an opportunity game for both teams.
Dino Babers’ squad has an opportunity to rise above .500 and get a step closer to a bowl bid. With a win, the Orange rise to 3-2 in conference and 5-4 overall.
Jimbo Fisher’s group would like to avoid a loss and improve on their 2-4 conference, 2-5 overall record. The Seminoles and their fans could use a boost.
Game time is 12:20p E with coverage on ACC Network Extra.
ACC Football Schedule – College Football Playoffs
Saturday’s mid-afternoon games features Georgia Tech at Virginia and Wake Forest at Notre Dame.
In a rain soaked adventure Georgia Tech came out on the wrong side of a 24-10 loss to Clemson. The Yellow Jackets offense rarely struggles against opponents. When you face a daunting defense of that caliber and throw in playing ball in a pool things can go south rapidly. Georgia Tech, 3-2/4-3, brings a much improved defense along with an effective option into Scott Stadium this week.
When it comes to pulling off wins at home Virginia has had sufficient good fortune over the years to make one think this game is within reach. Last week the Cavaliers, 2-2/5-3, had an opportunity to lock up a bowl bid when they faced Pitt. Unfortunately, it was a road game and the Panthers weren’t interested in helping Virginia.
Game time is 3:00p E with coverage on RSN.
Wake Forest sports a 2-3 conference record and 5-3 overall record heading into a battle against one of the top ranked teams in the country. Coming off an offensive battle that put a win on the board against Louisville, Wake Forest is feeling pretty good. However, the Demon Deacons are short several key players (read more) against Notre Dame. They’ll need every advantage they can muster.
Notre Dame is running nitro on offense, defense and special teams. Once the Irish started their engines against NC State it was just a matter of time before they pulled away for the win. The Irish, 7-1, have a brutal running attack and are no slouches when it comes to shutting down an opponents passing attack.
Game time is 3:30p E with coverage on NBC.
ACC Football Schedule – Power Poll
The two big games of the week are timed perfectly to keep you watching from mid-afternoon into late evening.
Our first mash-up takes us to Raleigh as Clemson seeks to lock up the Atlantic Division of the ACC and head to another conference championship game.
The Tigers haven’t been racking up huge points but they’re getting the job done. It’s not like they don’t have the weaponry. This may be the week they’ll need to put the foot on the accelerator to get past NC State’s defense. Speaking of defense. Clemson can keep teams bottled up fairly effectively.
NC State plays host to the reigning national champions after getting into a Battle Royale with Notre Dame. The Irish are one of the best teams the Wolfpack will see and that may include Clemson. With that thought in mind, maybe NC State can come away from last weekend’s loss with ideas on how to win the division. The Wolfpack have a solid offense, a solid defense and have certainly improved their special teams performance this season.
Don’t want to miss this match up. Game time is 3:30p E with coverage on ABC.
ACC Football Schedule – The Pick
If you’re looking for another head to head that also involves a division title then Virginia Tech and Miami is just what you need.
The Hokies carry on the tradition of Beamer Ball with one of the best defensive and special teams teams in the country. Last weekend Virginia Tech slogged through the rain to hand Duke a loss in Blacksburg. Virginia Tech, 3-1/7-1, counts their sole loss to Clemson early in the season. The Hokies one weakness continues to be offense.
Carrying an unbeaten record into the game, Miami, 5-0/7-0, have had what it takes on offense to put points on the board, especially when it really matters. The Hurricanes are almost polar opposites of the Hokies when it comes to defense and special teams. The big question in this game will be, which side wins? Will it be defense or offense?
Game time is 8:00p E with coverage on ABC.
